About Oʻahu RC&D

Oʻahu Resource Conservation and Development Council (Oʻahu RC&D) is an independent, 501(c)(3) non-profit entity that has been serving Hawaiʻi’s rural communities, farms, and ranches since 1997 to improve stewardship of natural resources. Our programs focus on the social, economic, and environmental nexus of sustainable agriculture, local food production and watershed restoration. Oʻahu RC&D’s accomplishments stem from a “boots-on-the-ground” approach to support farmers and the sustainable production of local food, while protecting natural resources.

Programs include technical and financial assistance to improve the management of natural resources, such as soil and water, and the implementation of conservation practices that build and restore the health of soils and watersheds; building community and through the creation of farmer-to-farmer networks; and increasing understanding and engagement among the general public on the diversity and importance of local agriculture.

Oʻahu RC&D is able to expand its reach through strong partnerships with other organizations, agencies and service providers. The national RC&D program was established by the USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service, and we retain a strong cooperation with the NRCS Pacific Island Area office in order to fulfill our mission. We also work closely with the Oʻahu Soil and Water Conservation Districts to assist rural farms and land owners with conservation plans and technical assistance. Finally, we serve as a fiscal sponsor to organizations that share our goals and objectives.
