Land Preservation Symposium - January 12, 2012

Sustainability and self-sufficiency in Hawaii require the preservation of agricultural and natural lands. Conservation Easements are important tools that communities and landowners can use to help achieve these goals. O`ahu RC&D is partnering with UH-CTAHR, USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service, the Trust for Public Land, The Nature Conservancy, State and County Governments, and Local Land Trusts to host workshops highlighting the use of conservation easements.

Join us at a statewide symposium featuring an in-depth program on land preservation strategies for Hawaii. The symposium includes plenary, panel and breakout sessions by expert speakers on topics such as Conservation Easements, Legal Aspects of Land Transactions, Funding Strategies, Planning for Green Space and more
The symposium is of particular interest to large landowners, attorneys and land use planners, government leaders, professionals in the agriculture and natural resources field, and individuals / groups involved with land use decisions in their communities.
The morning session includes a general overview of land preservation strategies, local land trusts, and an introduction to conservation easements.
A lunch-time panel will feature landowners who have completed conservation easements on their lands (offering a variety of perspectives, methods and motivations).
The afternoon will offer three break-out sessions: 1) legal details of conservation easements; 2) funding sources (federal, state, county, other); and 3) Green Printing (a method for communities to prioritize which lands should be preserved).
